Germany has excluded 2014 World Cup hero, Mario Gotze and Liverpool midfielder, Emre Can, from their 27-man provisional squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Gotze, scorer of the winning goal in the World Cup final four years ago in Brazil, and Can, who has been fighting to be fit for the Champions League final against Real Madrid after suffering a back injury in March, have both been left out of Germany’s preliminary squad for this summer’s tournament.

The 27-man squad announced on Tuesday by Germany coach, Joachim Low, is made up of four goalkeepers, nine defenders, ten midfielders and four strikers.

The squad and their club-side are as follows: Goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer (Bayern), Marc-André ter Stegen (Barcelona), Bernd Leno (Bayer Leverkusen), Kevin Trapp (PSG).

Defenders: Jerome Boateng (Bayern), Mats Hummels (Bayern), Niklas Sule (Bayern), Joshua Kimmich (Bayern), Antonio Rudiger (Chelsea), Jonas Hector (Koln), Marvin Plattenhardt (Hertha BSC), Jonathan Tah (Bayer Leverkusen), Matthias Ginter (Borussia Monchengladbach)

Midfielders: Julian Brandt (Bayer Leverkusen), Julian Draxler (PSG), Leon Goretzka (Schalke), Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City), Sami Khedira (Juventus), Toni Kroos (Real Madrid), Mesut Ozil (Arsenal), Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund), Sebastian Rudy (Bayern), Leroy Sane (Manchester City)

Forwards: Thomas Muller (Bayern), Timo Werner (RB Leipzig), Mario Gomez (Stuttgart), Nils Petersen (Freiburg)

Meanwhile, Low on Tuesday also signed a contract extension with Germany until 2022.

The 58-year-old took charge of Die Mannschaft in 2006, succeeding Jurgen Klinsmann, after working for two years as his assistant.
